NSCIA CT Chapter Conn Cord: Fall/Winter 2004

On a beautiful September 9, 2003, over 100 golfers charged the Robert Trent Jones course at Lyman Orchards Golf Club for the 4th Annual Wheeling and Able Golf Classic.

This year’s tournament netted over $6,000 to fund the Spinal Cord Injury Resource Center, located at 2120 Corbin Avenue in New Britain with computers, a television, VCR and other educational materials.

Bill Mancini, Chapter President, played from a specially designed golf cart with Emcee and Co-chair Brad Field from WVIT-Channel 30, association founder Dr. Philip Arnold, and Eastern Rehabilitation Network’s Ed Tantorski.

The tournament’s success depended not only on the golfers, but also on the many volunteers and sponsors, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank them.

Assisting Brad Field on the Committee was Diane Smith of WTIC-AM Newstalk1080. Diane interviewed Bill on her radio show which gave the Association great exposure (Bill wanted to collect money for his autograph).

Other Committee members from the Association included Cathy Andersen, Jennifer Bartiss-Earley, Caitlin DePalma, Jeff Dion, Cathie Feeney, Dave Herron, Jayne Kleinman, Gino Mancini, Karen McDonald, Bob Nolan, Tracie Stanton and Rebecca Stoddard.

Eastern Rehabilitation Network (ERN) served as the organizing sponsor. ERN coordinated all of the day’s events and supplied numerous volunteers. Major sponsors included JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management, Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics, and Urology Specialists, P.C.

The putting green, driving range, and golfer sponsors included: Michael Erdil, MD, Gaylord Hospital, MidState Medical Center, Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation, Rita Parisi, Mark Orlove, Pronto Printer of Newington, and The Rehabilitation Hospital of Connecticut, Shipman & Goodwin, and Mark Sullivan.

Tee sign sponsors included: Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Creative Office Interiors, The Fitzpatrick Family, John Foley, The Henry Low Heart Center at Hartford Hospital, Hudson Home Health Care & Rehab Equipment, Antonio and Maria Mancini, O, R & L Commercial Real Estate, Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, PC, Roman Oil, VNA Health Care Inc., and Victor Advertising.

Donations to the auction and raffle included: Azul, Battiston’s Complete Fabric Care Centers, Eastern Rehabilitation Network Employees, Foxwoods Resort Casino, Brad Gilchrist, Golfers’ Warehouse, Hartford Office Supply, Mary Heslin, Hot Tomato’s, Jubilee Framing, J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management, Puerto Vallarta, Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, Ruby Tuesday Bristol, Diane Smith, The Hartt School, VNA Health Care Inc., and Brian Webster.

Many thanks to all for the continued support! And please save the date for the next Wheeling and Able Golf Classic - Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at Lyman Orchards. See you there!
