We are pleased to announce a community adaptive fitness program featuring Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). Through a community partnership between the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Connecticut and the Valley Shore YMCA in Westbrook, CT, we are able to offer this beneficial, ground-breaking therapeutic exercise to individuals with spinal cord injuries and other neurological impairments.

What FES is

Functional Electrical Stimulation sends gentle, targeted electrical impulses to muscles that no longer receive signals from the brain because of a spinal cord injury or other neurological condition — bridging the gap so muscles can contract and move, as in the RT300’s leg-cycling therapy.

Who it’s for
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Stroke
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Other neurological conditions affecting movement
The community program

The RT300 FES unit is made available through grants and donations to the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Connecticut and hosted at the Valley Shore YMCA of Westbrook, CT, giving community members access to this evidence-based therapy through a YMCA membership.
